The number of people using food banks in the UK is rapidly rising. In 2017/2018 foodbanks gave more than 1,300,000 (one million three hundred thousand) three-day emergency food supplies to people in need.

Speed cameras switched back on in Avon and Somerset

From Wednesday 11th February across Avon and Somerset started to switch back speed cameras. First one was re-activeted on the A4 at Bath Road Hill in Saltford.  29 static cameras became operational again for the first time since 2011.

Free English Courses

MECA has been working hard in order to give people the opportunity to attend free English Classes and we are now able to announce that the Course will soon start In Yeovil  on 5th of November Wednesday at  12:15-14:15, in Shepton Mallet on 3rd of November Monday at 13:30- 15:30 and Bridgwater on 3rd of November Monday at 10:00 to 12:00.

Annual Training Day Somerset Skills and Learning

This year, we have decided to hold an 'Annual Training Day' to cover a wider remit, prepare us for the year ahead and ensure that our partners know the SS&L challenges and priorities for 2014 – 15. Learners from six countries have recently completed a novel 20-hour course in English language and culture. Delivered by MECA with funding from Somerset Skills and Learning, the course adopted a fresh approach to teaching English, with language skills embedded in the culture aspect of the course and a chance for learners to get out of the classroom and use English in a variety of settings.
