BFI Film Academy 2020

Great news for passionate and committed young people who have a love of film!

The BFI Film Academy is aimed at those who are interested in pursuing a career in the film and media industry, whether as a script writer, cinematographer, actor, set designer or director (the list is endless) you do not have to be currently studying film or media to apply.

BFI Film Academy is a 7 day programme, where participants aged 16 - 19 years will get the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of filmmaking through a series of workshops and masterclasses, in which they will get the chance to learn from, and work with, leading industry professionals through our BFI Film Academy programme.

January 2020 Academy will take place on 11/18/25/26 January and 1/2/8 February 2020 at The Engine Room, 50-52 High Street, Bridgwater TA6 3BL.

Participants of the Academy receive seven jam-packed days of masterclasses, screenings, career guidance, mentoring and hands on workshops plus the chance to meet industry professionals and make two short films.

The cost to participate in the BFI Film Academy delivered by Somerset Film is £25. But if you will struggle to pay the course fee, don’t be put off as you will be able to indicate this once you are accepted on the course and this fee can be waived. Lunch and refreshments will be provided as will all materials/equipment. The Academy is open to all abilities and support can be arranged for those who may need a helping hand to take part.  Bursaries will also be made available if you require assistance with travel, childcare or other costs. Please note that unfortunately the Academy is not available for students who are attending university at the time of the course.

Deadline for applications is Monday 16th December 2019. We have limited places so please answer the questions on the form as fully as possible as this will help us to decide who will get a place.

A number of our BFI Film Academy alumni who successfully completed the course with Somerset Film have since gone on to launch their own careers in film; some are working within the industry, others are carrying out further studies and we have also had students attend the prestigious National Film and Television schools (NFTS) residential Academy. Don’t miss you chance!
