Food banks - where and how in Somerset

Food banks - where and how in Somerset

The number of people using food banks in the UK is rapidly rising. In 2017/2018 foodbanks gave more than 1,300,000 (one million three hundred thousand) three-day emergency food supplies to people in need.

An interesting fact is that, according to information provided by BBC, 87% of people receiving these parcels are born in the United Kingdom.

We are aware, that a visit to a food bank is an unpleasant, some would say, an embarrassing matter, but when one is on an empty stomach and there are not any relatives, friends who could give a helping hand in a crisis situation, then one needs to get any form of help available. Foodbanks are one of them and what is more their services are not limited to giving only food parcels. These places become community hubs where people can meet and have a chat over coffee or tea and get some advice or join various courses helping people tackle debt and financial difficulties, to eat healthily without spending much, get support with fuel crisis through fuel vouchers and guided self-help etc. In order to get food supplies you need to get a referral form (voucher) and they are available from CAB, Job Centre, Health visitors, Doctors, Social workers and all main referral agencies.
