Truth, Lies and Benefits

"Truth, Lies and Benefits" is the theme of a public meeting to be held in Yeovil this Saturday, 18 April. Three local people will address the meeting with their personal accounts of how the benefits system has treated them.

Trudy Baddams of Westfield, secretary to the Unite Community Group said, "I feel that the plight of benefit claimants has been misrepresented in the media and TV programmes such as "Benefits Street" and I want to set the record straight. It's time to stop the persecution of claimants. They didn't cause the financial crisis." Also speaking is Richard Capps of the Public and Commercial Services trade union. Mr Capps works in a Job Centre, represents Job Centre staff as a trade unionist and is Chair of the SW Region TUC. The meeting is organised jointly by Yeovil Trades Union Council and Yeovil & West Dorset Unite Community Group. It is at Unity Hall, Central Road, Yeovil BA20 1JL and starts at 2.30pm. All are welcome.
