Heart of Wessex Local Action Group (LAG)

There is a new opportunity for people living in the eastern half of South Somerset (not including Yeovil) to apply for funding to help them start a new business or expand an existing one.

The Heart of Wessex Locac Action Group would like to work with local people and businesses in order to develop opportunities for improving the rural economy and quality of life for people who live and work in the area through targeted grants programme.

LEADER is a community-led European funding programme that supports rural community development. The planning, decision making and implementation is done at a local level, carried out by a Local Action Group (LAG). The LAG is made up of private, public and community sector volunteers with a wide range of experience and knowledge of local rural issues. The next round of funds (2015 – 2020) is focussed on economic growth and jobs. Funding will be available for the following sectors:
• tourism
• micro-businesses
• local products, including food and drink
• farming and farm diversification
• forestry
• cultural and heritage
• skills and training
They would therefore particularly like to hear from people involved in these sectors.
Have a look at their website, if there's anything else you need, or even if you'd  like an informal chat about an idea for a project or joining the Local Action Group please do contact Heart of Wessex team – They want to hear your ideas, see the Projects for more information about what they can fund and how to apply.
