Bilingual Support Worker - job opportunity

We have a vacancy for full time 40 hours per week or part time posts 24 hours per week. BI-LINGUAL (Polish-English) BI-LINGUAL SUPPORT WORKER These posts are funded for one year by Somerset County Council and DIVERSITY VOICE. It is a voluntary sector organisation managed by a board of Trustees.



 The organisation has grown quickly and now extends support to all ethnic minorities from other countries living in Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Wiltshire.  This support includes cultural awareness events, translation and interpreting, language courses, advice services and the employment of link workers to support people to access education and other services. 

The post holder will be primarily responsible for work in South Somerset, Taunton Deane, Mendip, Sedgemoor & West Somerset areas.    We are looking for people with some experience in both a school education and early years setting, who are also able to demonstrate excellent language skills, with English and Polish being a prerequisite and additional languages an advantage.   The key purpose of the role is to support schools and early years providers and other services to meet the needs of Polish children and families and to help families to communicate with providers and other services.

It is important to note that on some occasions days and times worked and the total number of hours worked each week is likely to vary. Also, we would require to be able to work on some occasions Saturday and Sunday. As the post holder will not be managed on a day-to-day basis, it is essential that she/he has the ability to quickly gain an understanding of the requirements of the post and of our work.  He/she will need to develop a positive rapport with all stakeholders.  These are third year posts and we are open-minded about the background of applicants and their formal qualifications.  Applicants will need to complete a successful criminal record known as Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in order to comply with regulations.
